problem with 850 t5 engine

:Banane45: Hello all I've got bit of a problem. I've got a 95 850 t5 estate but sadly she has just died (blown bottom end) mine is a manual gearbox is it possible to fit a engine from a t5 with a autogearbox. If so what would i have to do for it to fit. Thank's paul 850 t5

Hi, I'm no expert in this area but I don't see why not. My reasoning is that people have talked of doing auto to manual conversions, so the gearboxes must both fit the engine. So, the other way round should also work. And a lot less hassle, as unlike people doing auto->manual you won't have to mess with changing ECU, wiring loom etc. I don't believe there's anything on the engine which makes it a manual or an auto. No difference in the engines, just what gets attached to the end of the crank. Just bolt your fly wheel on...after you've changed the rear main oil seal!

there is absolutely no reason at all why the engine from a auto could not replace one from a manual cheers jod

Just one more thing to point out done this on land rovers v8's but i have never seen a volvo crankshaft end so dont know if this is the case am sure someone will point it out but the crank from the auto engine mite not have the spigot bush or bronze bush for the manual gearbox layshaft cause auto layshafts turn the same speed as engine all the time But not on manuals has in the clutch disengage the engine to gearbox so will be at different speeds thats why u need a bush
