Hello folks - just found this excellent site and have joined right away. Have an F reg 760GLE automatic Estate that has done 230,000 absolutely trouble free miles but...................! I now find that I have some very unpleasant thick buttery goo in the coolant header tank. It is definitely an oil emulsion but I'm not using any engine oil - the goo has a smell that reminds me of automatic transmission oil. There's no sign of anything untoward on the gearbox dipstick. Is major trouble about to appear?? All comments/advice gratefully received. Big question - what would you all recommend as a replacement for the 760 if the unthinkable happens?? George

Agree with Madder93; although it was a few years ago that I had to replace my rad due to this problem. Would recommend that you change auto fluid, even though it may look ok, as any water/coolant in it will not do the auto box any good. You will obviously need to flush cooling system thoroughly to get any contamination (emulsion etc.) out.

Hi, Welcome to the forums and enjoy your stay - seems like yoiu'll likely have fun here.. :) If considering a replacement for the 760 then as suggested - ANOTHER... :D OR you could step up to the 960 - you can pick these up fairly cheaply these days. Or you can have a crack at the 740 or 940. See how the other half live.. Again these can be picked up reasonably cheaply too... Des. . . ;)
